BREAKING NEWS!

Usk Valley Ospreys are delighted to announce the arrival of a female osprey on the nest. At last, a possible mate for our unringed male.

The female first touched down at 12:54, seen on camera and recorded by one of our watchers. She was joined four minutes later by the unringed male and at 13:03 there was a first mating attempt.

It is a touch too early to say whether she will stay, but if she was not simply on her way to another nest (which by this point in the season is unlikely) then we could have a breeding pair.  It is a little late in the breeding season but crucially, not too late, so we will be keeping everything crossed for them in the coming days.

This female is another mystery bird. She too is unringed and therefore we don’t know her age or where she has come from - but none of that matters at all. She is here and that’s all that counts.
