OSPREY LANDS ON THE NEST, TALYBONT-on-USK
Usk Valley Ospreys are delighted to announce the first ‘touch-down’ of an osprey onto the nest in 2025.
A female osprey arrived onto the nest at 10.30am today staying in the area for approximately 45 minutes. It was identified by its Blue Darvic leg-ring as 2H4 (right leg). We were quickly informed that she was ringed as a chick in a Rutland Water nest in 2022. She is familiar with the Usk Valley as she visited the Talybont nest on two dates in July 2024. In the recent past Rutland Water birds have been instrumental in the re-colonisation of breeding osprey in Wales.
While her presence today may in time prove to be another ‘fly-through’, UVO now appeal to Trained Watchers to begin to book 2-hour observation slots and to gather data from nest-cam and cup-cam footage. Field observations from the towpath viewpoint will continue as it is those that have confirmed the presence of ospreys travelling through and over the valley (but not on the nest) in recent days.
